On the inside of each flap door is a picture of its respective build, which also doubles as your instructions; there is no separate booklet to explain how to put these together. In theory, this means that the single picture must be self-evident enough to convey what is typically depicted in multiple steps. I also really like the printed casette tape, which I believe is a new element and exclusive to this Advent Calendar, so this is really a pretty decent window, even if the build is somewhat on the smaller side of things.The minifigure is the same as the one found in 76913 The Guardians’ Ship, and also comes with a blue (dark azure) Fender Stratocaster-esque electric guitar. Behind each of the Advent calendar’s 24 doors is a daily Marvel gift for kids to discover throughout the December build-up to Christmas. I was unaware of Advent calendars until a few years ago. My parents were secular, and although my family celebrated Christmas in a broad sense, we focused exclusively on the "family" and "togetherness" parts of the equation, rather than on the religious aspects. Years later, I married a Catholic woman, and I learned more about the ceremonies and the traditions that lead up to Christmas. But it was only when we had our son that I learned about Advent calendars.

The original LEGO 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue is one of my favourite sets ever, and I still have the ship on display since 2014, so here’s a side by side with the full-sized Milano. The image doesn’t spoil ALL of the contents, but in addition to C-3PO and R2-D2 in ugly christmas sweaters, we also get a beach Darth Vader, Snow Trooper, Battle Droid and a Clone Commander, which looks suspiciously like the one from the UCS Republic Gunship. And that’s it for the Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar! To be honest, I’m mostly disappointed by the Calendar, mostly because of strings of forgettable days and builds, with items that were a stretch to connect to Christmas, the Guardians of the Galaxy or even the Holiday Special.

Before you read on, this review will include spoilers for the upcoming LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Advent Calendar. I won’t be revealing which builds appear on which days but it will feature each of the 24 buildable items you’ll find in the Advent Calendar. If you prefer to be completely surprised on December 1st, I advise you don’t read on any further. It’s pretty good, and has space for one minifigure to pilot it, but overall, it feels like they could’ve squeezed it into 2 days instead of 3, wasting precious spots close toward the end of the Advent Calendar.Speaking of Easter eggs, one door holds a crate of items from past Guardians of the Galaxy adventures, including a prosthetic eye, Yondu’s arrow, the Power Stone containment orb and what might be an Anulax Battery from the sequel.
