The story of how Casamigos started is worth telling. Clooney and Gerber were sitting at a bar one night when building their new homes in Mexico, talking about how they were still yet to find their ‘perfect tequila’ despite trying so many. That night, they decided to create their own original tequila.
Don Julio’s añejo is tasteful elegance when it comes to aged-in-oak tequila. Casamigos Reposado Tequila is made from hand-selected 100% Blue Weber agaves from the rich soil of the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, aged for 7 months, giving it that beautiful silky-smooth oaky vanilla taste.
Alongside Casamigos Blanco Tequila, the brand also produces it’s popular Casamigos Reposado and Casamigos Añejo Tequilas, along with other non-tequila spirits such as mezcal.Although a relative newcomer to the tequila scene, Casamigos is no stranger to making a mark among both casual drinkers and tequila connoisseurs alike. Casamigos Reposado Tequila is one of the three tequilas (the others being Casamigos Reposado Tequila and Casamigos Añejo Tequila) from the brand ‘Casamigos’ founded by George Clooney and his two friends Rande Gerber, a bar and restaurant tycoon, and Mike Meldan, a successful property developer. Vanilla, raisins and oak wood are present in the taste, but they do not try to be the lead in the Patron añejo theater. The telltale peppery rush of agave is still in the drink, and is very much the dominant flavor. They tried 700 recipes across 2 years, finally settling on their favourite. After buying over 1000 bottles in a year from the producers they were told that to continue they would have to get a licence. At this point, they decided to go out on a whim and take their tequila public with the help of Meldman who owned the development where Clooney and Gerber were building their houses. The development was called Casamigos, hence the name of the brand, translating roughly to ‘house of friends’. Casamigos also boasts of its processes used to make its mezcal variant. Launched in early 2018 as its first mezcal, Casamigos Mezcal has purely Espadin agave from Oaxaca (Mexico).
